This privacy notice also covers information you tell us about in your Jobseeker profile. If you have work obligations, what you put into your profile may impact your benefit.

Additional privacy statement

This notice provides you with information about what we do with your personal information when you use MyMSD to search, match and apply for jobs. This includes how we collect, use and share your information.

This is in addition to the Ministry’s Privacy Statement, which also applies to your use of this site.

Collecting your information

When you use MyMSD to search, match and apply for jobs, we collect the personal information you provide so we can match you with appropriate employment opportunities.

If you are already a client with us, this information will be stored with your other information we already hold.

If you haven’t been a client with us before, you will need to register for MyMSD. The information you give us when you register will be stored with information you give us in this site.

Completing a Jobseeker Profile

There’s certain information that is required when completing your Jobseeker Profile - see Jobseeker profile - Work and Income  for more detail about the process and the information collected.

You can review and update your Jobseeker Profile before initial completion of the profile and at any point after to ensure all information captured is considered current, true and correct.

A Jobseeker profile will not be created or updated without your permission.

Using your information

When you use MyMSD to search, match and apply for jobs, your information is visible to authorised MSD staff and will be used to match you with job vacancies. Your information may also be used to identify and develop employment opportunities that may suit your skills and circumstances. To match you with vacancies, we use an automated matching process to generate a match strength based on your profile information. We will be able to see the status (submitted, interviewed, hired, etc.) of your job applications.

Your information may be used to contact you about suitable vacancies you may want to apply for. For clients with work obligations, it may also be used to inform decisions about whether you are fulfilling those obligations.

Sharing your information

When you use MyMSD to search, match and apply for a job, your application may go through a shortlisting process. This means MSD staff may review your application to assess whether you are suitable to be referred to an employer. If your application is shortlisted, we may share relevant information with the employer about you and how your strengths align with the employer’s needs so they can assess your suitability for the role.

This information may include:

  • contact details
  • information specific to the role requirements (such as licence status, work history or required pre-employment checks)
  • the CV version you have chosen to use
  • relevant declarations (including any required criminal convictions disclosures)
  • interview readiness details.

Once your application is submitted, the employer will be able to view, export and use the information provided in your application.

Please note that employers have obligations under the Privacy Act 2020 to protect your information and that should you have any questions or concerns about how an employer has handled your information you should get in touch with them directly. You can also raise complaints with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Collecting employer feedback

We collect and record employer feedback on candidates after interviews, which may include details such as feedback on skills, strengths, areas for improvement and reasons for hiring decisions; we collect this information for the purpose of supporting your ongoing development
