Work-related obligations

All benefits from Work and Income have obligations. These are things you must do to keep getting your benefit. Work-related obligations are about mahi.

There are 3 types of work obligations:

Full-time work obligations

Most people need to look for mahi of at least 30 hours a week. This doesn’t apply if you have a health condition, injury or disability that means you can’t work full time.

Part-time work obligations

If a health condition, injury or disability means you can only work part time, you need to look for mahi of at least 15 hours a week.

Work preparation obligations

If you can’t work, or can only work under 15 hours a week because of a health condition, injury or disability, you only need to prepare to look for work.

Meeting your work obligations

  • How your benefit may be affected If you get a benefit with work obligations, you must do things to look for mahi or get ready for mahi. If you don’t do these things, without a good and sufficient reason, your payments could reduce or stop.
